Volunteers
The Southern California Marine Institute Volunteer program is designed to introduce college level students to marine science careers. Volunteers will learn basic operations at SCMI’s marine facilities including supporting our aquarists. We are looking for students interested in marine science, marine biology and animal husbandry. You must be 18 years or older in order to volunteer.
SCMI offers volunteer positions during the spring, summer and fall semesters.
Volunteer Duties include but are not limited to:
- Seawater system maintenance
- Animal Hubandry
- Water Quality Testing
- Marine Science Education
Student Assistants
If you are a CSULB undergraduate student, you are eligible to become a student assistant at SCMI. Student assistants are paid interns.
SCMI offers student assistant positions during the spring, summer and fall semesters.
Student Assistant Duties include but are not limited to:
- Seawater system maintenance
- Animal Hubandry
- Water Quality Testing
- Marine Science Education
- Occasional assistance to technicians on the R/V Yellowfin
